Students from each class standing were issued a big philanthropic challenge this year by Terry Serafini, a 1961 Indiana State College graduate. If 100 freshmen, 100 sophomores, 100 juniors, and 100 seniors made an investment in the IUP community, Serafini agreed to give $10,000 toward the soon-to-be-developed Grant Street Park, an outdoor recreational area stretching from 11th Street to Pratt Drive.

IUP students stepped up in a big way. They not only met the challenge—they crushed it. And they aren’t done yet. Gifts from students continue to stream into the Office of Annual Giving. Today, April 3, is also Salute to Grads Day at the IUP Co-op Store, and many seniors are picking up their graduation regalia and making their senior class gifts. Seniors have elected to lend their support to Grant Street Park, and each student who gives at least $20.18 will receive a crimson and gray philanthropy cord to wear at graduation. These cords represent a lifelong reciprocal relationship between students and the university.

When you participate in the University Family Drive this year, you’ll join more than 550 current students who have made gifts to areas of IUP they passionately support. Your participation in the University Family Drive is important. Gifts enable students to achieve their dreams and to imagine unlimited possibilities. A strong participation rate also sends a message to those outside the university that IUP is worthy of their investment. If you’ve already made your commitment, thank you!

The University Family Drive runs through April 20. Currently, it is at more than 60 percent of the goal of 800 donors. For more information on how you can make an impact on IUP students, visit the University Family Drive website. The site includes information on how to download a pledge form and how to make an electronic commitment via payroll deduction. You may also make a gift by credit card. Gifts are tax deductible, per Internal Revenue Service regulations. Please contact the Office of Annual Giving at 724-357-5555 or iup-giving@iup.edu with questions.
