The Folk Art Storyscape workshop was held in conjunction with the University Museum exhibition Memory and Magic. IUP
art education students and faculty visited the museum with a group of fourth- through sixth-grade students and reviewed the pieces in the show. Rev. Richard Cooper, whose work is featured in the show and who has collected many of the objects on display,
also spoke to the group.
After viewing the exhibition, the group returned to Sprowls Hall, where the students created their own Folk Art Storyscapes. These small paintings included characters, setting, action and foreground, middle ground, background, and patterns. The students
used watercolor techniques to complete their paintings.
