The Lively Arts at Indiana
University of Pennsylvania announces the final Sound Choices Series concert for the 2017–18 season. The concert will
feature IUP’s Wind Ensemble, conducted by Professor Timothy Paul, director of bands
and assistant professor of music. This
event will take place on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. in Fisher
Auditorium, IUP Performing Arts Center.
This concert celebrates wind band
music of the past and present. A list of composers will include Robert Litton,
Vincent Persichetti, Charles Ives, Carter Pann, Jack Stamp, and Martin Ellerby.
The concert will be repeated on March 9 at Yale University following a
prestigious invitation for IUP to perform at the 2018 College Band Directors
National Association conference.
In the CBDNA Eastern Division, there are over 200 members, and, based on
the audition process, the IUP Wind Ensemble is one of only five collegiate groups
invited to perform at this prestigious conference.
The IUP Wind Ensemble includes 49
talented woodwind, brass, and percussion students from the IUP Department of
Music and a variety of other academic disciplines. Founded in 1960, the IUP Wind
Ensemble has performed at numerous invited venues, including the National
Association for Music Education and CBDNA conferences, as well as a
myriad of schools across Pennsylvania and the northeast. In addition, the
ensemble has won wide acclaim for its multiple compact disc recordings. Graduates
of the IUP Wind Ensemble hold positions in professional ensembles and serve as
noted conductors and educators throughout the country. The IUP Wind Ensemble,
under the direction of Profesor Paul, is open to all IUP students by audition.
