Pittsburgh Filmmaker Tony Buba to Visit IUP for Film Showings

The Center for Film Studies in conjunction with the Department of English will be welcoming Pittsburgh Filmmaker Tony Buba on Thursday, February 15, 2018.

First, during Professor Tom Slater’s Humanities Literature class at 3:30 p.m. in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, room 225, he will show clips from his documentary Struggles in Steel and talk about racism. All students and faculty are welcome to attend, and vouchers will be available for attendance.    

Then, at 5:30 p.m., also in HSS 225, Buba will show his award-winning Ghosts of Amistad: Voices of the Rebels. He will then hold a discussion. Vouchers will be made available for this event as well.

Tony Buba is a Pittsburgh filmmaker who organized Braddock Films in 1992, from which he continues to produce documentary and fiction works and assist young filmmakers. He is dedicated and enthusiastic about making films that  matter for the region.

Among his other works were a pair of documentaries about the struggle to keep a UPMC hospital in Braddock. His current documentary project is titled Thunder Over Braddock, a companion to his
earlier Lightning Over Braddock.
