Grant Awarded to Food and Nutrition Faculty to Support Interprofessional Simulation Use and Research

Pao Ying Hsiao, assistant professor (Food and Nutrition) along with colleagues Lori Lombard (Speech-Language Pathology), Rachel DeSoto-Jackson (Theater), Johanna Boothby (Nursing), and Nikki Clark (Food and Nutrition), have been awarded with an IUP Infrastructure Enhancement and Growth Grant of $24,922.

The purpose of their proposal is to further ongoing research that is being conducted to advance the use of interprofessional healthcare simulation for students at IUP. Monies from this grant will be used toward developing laboratory spaces on campus to give students more exposure to using simulation as a learning strategy. 

The team plans to explore how the use of interprofessional simulation experiences for students can impact learning and, ultimately, patient safety. Currently, students enrolled in Medical Nutrition Therapy I and II have opportunities to participate in interprofessional simulation experiences, and grants like these will help these efforts to continue.
