The IUP Applied Archaeology master’s program is identified by the Register of Professional Archaeologists as a top 10 producer of registered professional archaeologists.
Established in 1998, the Register of Professional Archaeologists lists archaeologists who have agreed to adhere to an explicit code of conduct and standards of research performance; who hold a graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, art history, classics, history, or another related discipline; who have completed a thesis, dissertation, or its equivalent that addresses a significant archaeological research question; and who have professional experience in the field of archaeology.
The Register is focused on the advancement and continuation of professional standards in archaeology and the registration of qualified archaeologists. Currently there are over 3,000 RPAs in the United States. The majority of faculty of the IUP Applied Archaeology MA program are registered professional archaeologists.
