IUP Mid-Atlantic Research and Training Institute for Community and Behavioral Health is proud to announce the appointment of Christian Vaccaro as director of training. Vaccaro was previously appointed as a MARTI-CBH research associate in November 2011, in which he most notably developed and guided the implementation of the
Veterans Reintegration Research Cluster.
Vaccaro has been very active in the training mission of
MARTI-CBH. He has helped to organize, promote, and facilitate the 24th–27th MARTI Summer
School conferences on Family and Addictions. He was also involved in the organization of the inaugural REACH conference on Violence and Victimization in 2014. He has worked with Melissa Swauger to develop and refine graduate and undergraduate courses
associated with these important trainings.
Most recently, Vaccaro has worked with former MARTI-CBH associate Ray Brannon to cosponsor a conference on drug user health at Allegheny General Hospital with the AHN Center for Inclusion Health.
He looks forward to working with the IUP community on the development and organization of many future trainings on issues of addiction, violence, family issues, and community health. He is very interested in employing the use of distance technology to
enhance the training mission of MARTI-CBH for the 21st century needs of human service employees. If you are interested in collaborating, please reach out to him with suggestions and training recommendations.
Vaccaro is currently working with the core planning committee and reaching out to faculty and practitioners in related behavioral and community health fields to organize the 2018 MARTI-CBH Summer School training “Addictions and Violence: TIPs for Families,
Schools, and Communities,” which will be held July 9–13, 2018. The 28th MARTI Summer Conference will focus on Treatment, Intervention, and Prevention (TIPs) for helping children, youth, and adults affected by addictions and violence.
