The Lively Arts and IUP Music Department are presenting a Q&A
session with Manfred Honeck, music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony
Orchestra, from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. on Monday, October 30, in Cogswell 121. It will
be hosted by IUP music professor Matthew Baumer and is free and open
to students, staff, faculty, and community members.
Manfred Honeck has served as music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since the 2008–09 season and is the
organization’s ninth music director. He had first guest-conducted the symphony
in May 2006, and returned for another appearance later that year in November. Born
in Austria, Honeck studied music at the Academy of Music in Vienna and
performed in various capacities with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra—as
violinist, violist, and guest conductor. In addition to his directorship of the
Pittsburgh Symphony, Honeck has served as music director of the Swedish Radio
Symphony Orchestra and Staatsoper Stuttgart and as guest conductor of the Czech
