Confections for a Cause Raises More Than $1,600

The Department of Communication Disorders, Special Education, and Disability Services wants to thank the IUP community for making the seventh annual Confections for a Cause event a huge success!

Confections for a Cause is an annual bake sale with the goal of raising money for the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation. Last year, the bake sale raised $1,540. This year, we set a new record, raising $1,610. Thank you for once again to the IUP community for making this event a huge success.

We would like to thank Vickie Johnson, Celia Barber, and Shari Robertson for organizing this spectacularVickie Johnson, Celia Barber, and Shari Robertson, 2017 Confections for a Cause organizers event. We had donations of baked goods from Insomnia Cookies, members of the local community, and family members of those who have faced ovarian cancer.

Our IUP student groups also contributed to the success of this event by organizing, baking, accepting donations, and selling additional merchandise. Thank you to the following IUP student organizations:

  • National Student Speech-Language and Hearing Association 
  • Sign Language Club 

We raffled off several handmade items this year during the event with the following winners: a wreath won by Tina Brocious from Vocational Education, a snowman won by Gina McGaughey from Vocational Education, and a scarf and mittens won by Mariha Shields of Special Education. 

2017 Confections braceletWe were once again able to send a sizable donation to the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, which seeks to raise awareness of the disease, find an early detection test for ovarian cancer, and find improved treatments for the disease.
