A Message About Safety to Students from University Police

Posted on 9/19/2017 4:55:49 PM

You may have seen recent social media posts warning that students walking on and near campus have been followed or chased by individuals on foot and in vehicles.

University Police have spoken to the student who made the original claim and have found that the situation was not as described in social media posts. She was not followed or threatened.

Regardless, you should always practice good personal safety habits, including being vigilant and aware of your surroundings.

If at all possible, especially at night, please walk in pairs or groups.

If you have concerns for your safety, call 911 or activate a blue light phone if you are out on campus. This will automatically dispatch University Police to your area.

University Police also offers escort services to students, free of charge; please call 724-357-2141 to request an escort.

In the case of an emergency, call 911.
