Carpenter Publishes Book Chapter on Approach to Pre-Service Teachers’ Reflective Practice

Brian D. Carpenter (English Department), in collaboration Mariana Achugar of Carnegie Mellon University, has published an invited chapter in the edited collection, Critical take(s) on Systemic Functional Linguistics: Academic Literacies, Multilingual Learners and Social Equity edited by Ruth Harman.

Carpenter and Achugar’s chapter is titled “Critical SFL Praxis Principles in English Language Arts Education: Engaging Pre-Service Teachers in Reflective Practice.”

The chapter examines how important it is for students and teachers to examine and understand that language choices are driven by context and goals, and not so much by rules and prescribed notions of correctness.
