The Mid-Atlantic Research and Training Institute for
Community and Behavioral Health (MARTI) is collaborating with the Department of
Sociology and the Center for Health and Well-Being to present Overdose
Awareness Day at IUP on August 31 in the HUB Ohio Room.
This event is part of MARTI’s outreach initiative that
addresses the opioid overdose crisis in Western Pennsylvania, particularly the
heroin problem in Indiana and surrounding counties.
Overdose Awareness Day
takes place Thursday, August 31, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the HUB Ohio Room. The
event’s many activities include guest speakers and information tables by IUP
and community organizations, and opportunities to write tributes and speak out to
honor someone lost to overdose. There will also be live music and light
refreshments.
At dusk, participants can walk in a lighted memorial procession
through the Oak Grove to support recovery and to remember those lost to
overdose. Attendance vouchers will be available.
