Papakie’s unit, the 171st Air Refueling Wing of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, located in Findlay Township near the Pittsburgh International Airport, hosted a Flight Simulator Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony on Friday, May 5, 2017.

“I was the emcee for the event, so I invited IUP’s leadership to see our new flight simulator, tour one of our KC-135 Stratotankers on the ramp, check out our boom simulator and, most importantly, to see what I do when I’m playing hooky from IUP,” Papakie said.

Papakie is on military leave from IUP for a nine-month tour of duty to lead the unit’s Nuclear Operational Readiness Inspection.

Papakie said the “coolest” part of the visit was when the group gathered around the Boom Simulator and three of the boomers were presenting.
