Heather Powers, associate professor of English, presented her research on April 13 and 14, 2017, at the 47th annual Popular Culture Association-American Culture Association National Conference in San Diego, California.

Powers’s presentation, “Sexual Healing: K/S and PTSD,” focused on how fan zines created in the 1980s used descriptions of romantic relationships between the Star Trek characters James Kirk and Mr. Spock to represent methods of healing from traumas such as rape and assault.

This research was made possible by a grant from the Popular Culture Summer Research Institute at Bowling Green State University.
