On Sunday, April 23, 2017, the Indiana Gazette published a piece written by Tony Palamone, director of the IUP Small Business Development Center. The article, “As I See It: SBDCs play a vital role,” deals with the SBDC’s role in economic development which is foundational, yet often underappreciated.
At present, the Pennsylvania state budget process is underway for the 2017–18 fiscal year. State legislators face a challenging task of matching revenues to expenses. The Pennsylvania state budget affects many areas of concern, which include efforts to grow and sustain local economies.
This piece brings some perspective to the discussion and attempts to shed some light on the importance of the work of the SBDC and argues against dramatic spending cuts on critical economic development efforts.
