As part of its Give to the Grove initiative, the IUP Student Philanthropy Council will present at the university’s Earth Day festivities a gift to IUP’s Allegheny Arboretum.
The event takes place at noon on Friday, April 21, 2017, in the Oak Grove.
Thanks to the support of more than 90 students, Alex Ickes, president-elect of the Student Philanthropy Council, will present a gift that will
cover the cost of two trees to Jerry Pickering, director of the arboretum. Pickering, in turn, agreed to match up to $500 of the gifts made to the Give to the Grove initiative. With the added assistance of an anonymous donor, the effort translates
into four new trees for the arboretum.
Each of the new trees will be tagged as “A Gift from IUP Students.”
The Student Philanthropy Council chose to focus on the Oak Grove because it serves all students and serves as iconic reminder of the IUP experience to thousands of alumni. The arboretum identified a need to replace trees that have been lost to weather
and disease in the last several years.
