The Lively Arts will present A Broadway
Extravaganza in Fisher Auditorium. This original Broadway review will be performed on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 8:00 p.m. The production is part of the Department of Music’s
Sound Choices series.
Under the direction of Oliver Lo, director of the IUP Music Theater, with a specially assembled orchestra conducted by Christian Dickinson, this gala performance has a lineup of show-stopping tunes that includes numerous popular Broadway shows.
Broadway Extravaganza features songs from The Lion King, Porgy and
Bess, Fiddler on the Roof, Phantom of the Opera, Guys and Dolls, The Music Man,
Into the Woods, Oklahoma!, and others.
With so many hits from famous musicals, Lo compares the show-going experience to food. “We all desire a balanced diet and, thus, we attend complete musicals, operas, and plays. But, sometimes we just want the juicy steak or the cheesecake.”
Lo continues explaining, “In a musical, the signature tune represents the juicy steak or the dessert. So, imagine an evening of having all the goodies without the heartburn. A Broadway Extravaganza will definitely satisfy your appetite.”
Faculty soloists include Stanley Chepaitis, Mary Logan-Hastings, Joseph Baunoch, and Ryan Beeken. The program will also feature several student soloists, duets, and smaller ensembles.
