The Department of Communication Disorders, Special
Education, and Disability Services is proud to announce a new program designed
to help working teachers improve their expertise. The 12-credit Online
Endorsement Certificate will help students to work with children and adults who
experience autism spectrum disorder.
All 12 credits in this program will be offered entirely
online, helping newly graduated and working teachers enhance their credentials
without hindering their careers. In addition to being an ideal fit for current
and future special education teachers, the certificate will also enhance the
proficiency of professionals with degrees or certification in speech language
pathology, educational psychology, and general psychology. The 80 hours of
integrated field experiences help you learn to put that knowledge into
practice. Courses are taught by faculty who are experts in autism spectrum
disorders—they have had long-standing teaching careers supporting students
with autism both in K-12 schools and at the college level and conduct research
with this population as well.
The program is open to both current graduate students at IUP
and individuals outside of the university community looking to build their
teaching credentials. Incoming and current students who hold a Pennsylvania
Department of Education teaching certification can complete the
coursework and field experience to prepare and be eligible for the official PDE
Endorsement Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorder.
