Psychology’s Krys Kaniasty was a keynote speaker at the 18th annual Rao R. Ivatury Trauma Symposium hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University Health Center for Trauma and Critical Care Education and Division of Acute Care Surgical Services (Richmond, Virginia, March 29, 2017).

This year’s RR Ivatury Trauma Symposium focused on “Extreme Injuries & Injuries of Extremities” and included presentations and panels of trauma surgeons and nurses, emergency room personnel, and EMS first-responders.

The major point of Kaniasty’s lecture was that the importance of helping trauma survivors maintain strong social ties is second only to saving their lives by medical personnel.
