The Lively Arts will host a free open mic
event at 7:45 p.m. on Monday,
April 17, 2017, in Cogswell Hall, Room 126, with professional singer and actor David Wannen. Any IUP student who enjoys singing is invited to
participate, along with anyone wishing to sit and enjoy the music.
addition to being an actor and singer, Wannen serves as executive
director of the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, having been a
principal performer with the company since 2004.
Wannen is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music whose credits include leading roles in The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, Beauty and the Beast, and Camelot
with the late Robert Goulet, among many others. He is also president of
the North American Performing Arts Managers and Agents.
Whether you’ve had voice lessons, sung in a choir, or just enjoy singing in the shower, this is the perfect opportunity to have fun singing one of your favorite songs and getting some feedback, as well as hearing others sing their favorites. Your selection can be from Broadway, opera, pop, etc.—whatever is your favorite.
If you wish to sing, please bring the piano accompaniment for your selection to Cogswell 126 at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 17. A piano accompanist will be provided. If you only have an accompaniment CD, that’s fine, too. The order of singing is first-come, first-served. We also welcome prepared vocal duets, trios, or quartets.
Everyone joining us—singers and onlookers alike—are invited to stay afterwards for pizza and to talk with Wannen and other open mic performers.
