Dance Theaterat IUP combines forces with the IUP Percussion Ensemble to present a one-night-only performance of
A New Genesis
. This original production will be presented Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.
The work brings to life an exciting new adaptation of Nolan and Johnson’s award-wining science fiction story, Logan’s Run.
The story centers around a Utopian civilization where, upon your 30th birthday, you participate in the ceremony of “Renew.” It is the belief of that future society that this ceremony sends you into a new existence. But in actuality, it is a a mechanism for exterminating anyone who
is over 30 years of age.
Those who do not participate in Renew are tracked down and vaporized by Sandmen. Our lead character, Jessica, begins to question her belief in Renew as she draws closer to her 30th year. She seeks the help of Logan, who, although he is a Sandman, also has feelings for her. Together, they decide to find a way to the rumored Sanctuary. It is through their journey to escape that
Jessica and Logan find the real world outside the Utopian dome and discover a different world.
The work is choreographed by Holly Boda-Sutton. Micheal Kingan directs Phil Collins’ Genesis-inspired score, arranged by IUP percussion alumni Chris Leidhecker and John Mullen with current students Carol Ann McCloy and Brandon Peters.
This science fiction adventure is recreated through the lighting design of David Surtasky, scenic design of Corey Lunchuck, special properties design of James Bicknell, and costume design of Nancy Pipkin-Hutchison.
