Grateful. Humbled. Relieved. Motivated. Indebted. Proud. The 2016–17 Dean’s Merit Scholarship recipients used these words to describe what they felt when they received their scholarships. Fifty-three students from across each of IUP’s six colleges
received more than $64,000 in Dean’s Merit Scholarship awards this year.
Dean’s Merit awards enable students to immerse themselves in their respective disciplines. Students use the awards for tuition, books, living expenses, travel, and more. For some, the awards are the sole factor enabling their reenrollment each semester.
Without scholarship support, many students would not be able to study here. Because of you, they will graduate to positively impact our world.
“Interviewing these scholarship recipients is one of the highlights of my year. There’s no mistaking the impact of donor generosity when you hear how scholarship support changes their lives. They are grateful, without a doubt. A common theme emerges from
these interviews year after year, too, and it’s something that I’ve come to look forward to. Without fail, students cite their relationships with their professors and how they feel like they have a second family within their department. Each student
from each college says it—every year. It really speaks to the dedication of our faculty and staff, and it makes me very proud!” said Emily Smeltz, director of annual giving.
