English professor Tim Hibsman presented his paper titled “Super Simulations: The Next Best Thing to Actually Doing It” at the 2017 Computer-Using Educators Conference on March 16, 2017.
Flight simulator was one of the first simulator games that came onto the market. Now free mini-games and simulators are readily available for iPhones, iPads, and computers. In his presentation on using simulations for educational purposes, Hibsman explained how, by participating in these games, one can (virtually) build cities, drive cars, trucks, and ships, solve crimes, and even perform surgery. Hibsman overviewed the pros and cons of some of the current game apps available to educators and their students.
Some sample games include: SimCity Buildit, Criminal Case, Billionaire, Cooking Fever, Royal Dentist, Surgeon Simulator, Plastic Surgeon, Carpentry Basics, Welding Basics, Electrician Academy, Construction Simulator, and Flight Simulator.
