Celebrate National Nutrition Month with Chili Cook-Off

The Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND), which is the professional organization nutrition majors and minors within the Department of Food and Nutrition, is sponsoring a Chili Cook-Off in honor of National Nutrition Month.

Throughout the entire month of March, nutrition experts educate the public as the benefits and fun of healthy eating and proper nutrition. SAND is encouraging student groups, departments, co-workers, and community members to prepare their best chili recipe.

How To Enter:

  • Entry fee is $20/team. Send to Molly Moroney (National Nutrition Month Chair) or Julie Williams, department secretary, in 102 Ackerman Hall. Registration forms and payment must be received by February 21. E-mail Molly for a registratrion form at m.c.moroney@iup.edu.
  • Teams will consist of one to five people.
  • All entries must submit a copy of the recipe to Molly Moroney no later than February 27.
  • Must include two of the following challenge ingredients: beans, lentils, quinoa, tofu, peas, edamame, nuts/seeds, texture vegetable protein.
  • Follow proper food preparation and sanitation.
  • Must provide a full crock pot (at least six qts) of chili to give samples. (crock pots not provided)

How You Will Be Judged:

  • Students, faculty members, and members of the community will be able to taste samples of the chili. Tasters will be given a ticket, with which to use to vote for their favorite chili recipe.
  • Each tester will place their ticket in a jar in front of their favorite chili recipe.
  • The chili recipe with the most votes wins.
  • After judging all entries, prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Please note: Your team will be disqualified if the challenge ingredients are not incorporated into the recipe or if proper food safety is not followed.
