IUP and Eberly College of Business Host Region III Future Business Leaders of America Competition

FBLA 2016 Competition - Students at Eberly AuditoriumOn December 19, 2016, the IUP Eberly College of Business and Information Technology, in collaboration with the IUP Enrollment Management and Communications Department, hosted the FBLA Region Leadership Conference. More than 330 Future Business Leaders of America students from Blairsville, Brookville, Homer-Center, Indiana, Jeff Tech, Kiski Area School District, Marion Center, Penns Manor, Purchase Line, and United attended. Kiski Area School District students were unable to attend due to the timing of their winter break. 

When students arrived, they were welcomed by Dean Robert Camp and watched a video tour FBLA 2016 Competition - Students at KCACabout the Eberly College. Students competed in an extensive list of events and workshops and presentations throughout the morning such as job interviews, emerging business issues, graphic design, network design, parliamentary procedures, personal finance, insurance and risk management, business law, client services, entrepreneurship, securities and investments, introduction to financial math, and marketing.  

Later in the day students, advisors and guests gathered at the KCAC for lunch. Lance Marshall from IUP Admissions shared information about IUP during the luncheon program. There was a basket auction held to raise money for the students’ Pennsylvania FBLA state project, the National Kidney Foundation. The students raised $208.  

FBLA 2016 Competition - Awards CeremonyAfter the luncheon, the students gathered in the Eberly Auditorium for the awards ceremony, where they would find out if they would be advancing on to the state level competition in Hershey, Pennsylvania, from April 3 to 5, 2017. In total, 119 students qualified in their events for the state competition.

Kara Romance, assistant dean for Undergraduate Student Services, worked with the FBLA representatives to coordinate the program, indicating that, “this is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase IUP and the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology to our outstanding students in the region. We were very impressed with the leadership skills of these bright, young students.”
