Michael Schwartz’s paper on the classic American musical
“Gypsy” was accepted as part of the “History Has Its Eyes on You” working group at the American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR) conference in Minneapolis. The conference was held from November 3-6.
The working group’s focus of discussion was musicals that represented transitional moments in musical theater history.
Working groups represent a cross-section of peer theatre practitioners and scholars from around the world. Participants represent institutes of higher learning and also include independent theater scholars and practitioners. The members of this group are currently working on expanding their topics for possible inclusion in the journal Theatre Topics.
Schwartz’s contribution to this group, in attending one of the theatre research world’s foremost conferences, directly supports initiatives in IUP's Strategic Plan.
