Jim Racchini, assistant professor of Kinesiology, Health, and Sport Science and faculty athletics representative, participated with other renowned faculty experts in the NCAA Division II FAR Fellows Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana, September 30–October 2, 2016.
In the ninth FAR Fellows Institute, Racchini was selected among 23 other renowned athletics representatives from across the country to develop an enhanced understanding of the roles and critical functions of a Division II faculty athletics representative (FAR). Presentations and discussions covered leadership and collaboration skills, the role of the FAR in communications among different campus constituencies, and protection of student welfare, with a special emphasis on concussions.
One of the highlights of the weekend agenda included a presentation by Justin Paysinger from NCAA Leadership Development. He addressed the DiSC Workplace assessment and learning how to connect better with colleagues whose priorities and preferences differ from your own.
In his role as faculty athletics representative, Racchini is responsible for a number of activities related to institutional control of intercollegiate athletics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The role of the faculty athletics representative is an integral element of an intercollegiate athletics program.
