Colin Ashe, Wendy Elcesser, and Anne Kondo presented at the 24th Biennial Conference on Chemical Education at the University of Northern
Colorado, July 30–August 4, 2016.
Kondo, with Justin Fair (chemistry) and Robert Major (biology), presented on implementing integrated interdisciplinary
research projects in laboratory courses.
Elcesser and Kondo presented on their efforts to improve the retention of concepts in lab. In addition, Elcesser
presented results of studies on the reaction between copper (II) chloride and magnesium.
Other authors included Moira Mannard (MS 2013), Jared Fee (BS 2016),
Denali Davis (BS 2019), Brittany Buterbaugh (BS 2009) and Philip Palko
and Kate Palko from Indiana Area Senior High School.
Ashe gave two oral presentations: a
comparison of two different problem-solving strategies based on student success
in using them (with coauthors Daniel Wissinger (EDEX) and Brittney Wiesheier
(BS 2015), and an eye tracking investigation of the connection between
student learning and students’ patterns of viewing a simulation-based
curriculum sequence, with Daniel Chelednik (BS 2016) and coauthors from
Carnegie Mellon University. Ashe
was also a contributing author on two other oral presentations which were
presented by coauthors from Portland State University and Carnegie Mellon
Department of Chemistry
