The School of Graduate Studies and Research is pleased to
announce the hiring of Paul Hawkins as director of the Applied Research Lab
(ARL). His appointment provides an
important first step towards expanding ARL services to meet the needs of
faculty, students, and external clients.
Hawkins, a former ARL graduate lab assistant, has provided
research design and statistical analysis consulting services to the IUP
community for the past several years. His prior experiences include teaching
undergraduate research methods, constructing and delivering research and data
analysis workshops, designing and administering online surveys (including the
IUP Middle States master survey), analyzing quantitative and qualitative data
using various software packages, and publishing peer-reviewed research.
current research focuses on drug market interventions, offender re-entry,
fugitive apprehension programs, and the application of stochastic modeling to
legal decision-making. He received his Master of Arts in Criminology from IUP
in 2010 and is currently a criminology doctoral candidate with an anticipated
August 2017 graduation.
As the ARL embarks on an expansion of its services, Hawkins brings the requisite skills to provide steadiness and innovation aimed
to meet the needs of researchers.
The Applied Research Lab is located in 123 Stright Hall.
