American Tapestry In celebration of Indiana Borough’s Bicentennial, the Lively Arts welcomes American Tapestry as part of the Ovations! series. The all-female trio will perform on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 8:00 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall located on the second floor of Sutton Hall.

American Tapestry performs fresh and innovative arrangements of classic American music that marks the history, hardships, and love of America. Although music changes over the decades, this kind of music brings everyone together. Keeping American music alive and going forward is American Tapestry’s mission.

With piano, cello, fiddle, guitar, and vocals, American Tapestry carries out their mission of encouraging the younger generations to embrace and love the songs of their country’s past. The American culture trio is made up of Robin Spielberg, Kate MacLeod, and Meghan Knapp. All three acclaimed and talented artist bring their own flare to the group.

Robin Spielberg, a Steinway Artist since 1996, storyteller, author and national spokesperson for the American Music Therapy Association, has become one of America’s most beloved pianist/composers through her compelling melodies and stunning piano technique. She started the group after recording her concept album Sea to Shining Sea: An American Tapestry of Music. The idea came to her when she volunteered at her daughter’s Career Day at school and after asking the students about a few American folk songs. They knew all of them, thereby giving birth to American Tapestry.

Joining Spielberg is Kate MacLeod, singing as well as playing guitar and violin. She has had experience all over the world and brings cutting-edge songwriting skills to the trio. Megan Knapp, with roots in Colorado, joins on the cello and has, likewise, traveled across the globe. She has extensive experience collaborating with other artists and is comfortable performing folk, classical, world, and alternative styles.

As part of their visit, American Tapestry will present a question-and-answer session on April 14 in the Music Library, located in Cogswell Hall (11th Street). It will start at noon, and admission is free. A post-concert reception will also be held following the evening concert.
