University Family: When Students Follow Your Lead, Philanthropy Comes Full Circle

University family members are stepping up in a big way to support students through the University Family Drive—and IUP students are following suit. There’s a philanthropic movement happening on campus, and if you haven’t yet joined it, now’s the time.

Support IUP students now by participating in the University Family Drive.

More than 400 graduating seniors have made gifts in excess of $9,500 to the Foundation for IUP this fiscal year. This year’s seniors have chosen to make their mark by focusing their support on each of IUP’s six Deans Merit Scholarship funds. They recognize the valuable role scholarship support plays in their lives and in the lives of their peers. Seniors aren’t the only students that are investing in our community. The IUP Alumni Ambassadors and student employees of the IUP Phonathon have also lent their support.

Christina Bryner, Senior Class Gift participant, scholarship recipientFor graduating senior Christina Bryner, the importance of scholarship support is personal. A first-generation college student from Blairsville, Christina would not have been able to attend IUP without it. IUP faculty and staff believed in her and pointed her towards scholarships that would ultimately secure her ability to enroll as a freshman and to maintain her enrollment each year thereafter. Christina recently completed a highly competitive corporate internship where she was in a cohort with interns from several “big name” schools. She was as equally as prepared as each of them, if not more so. Yesterday, she made her Senior Class Gift to the Dean’s Merit Scholarship for the Eberly College of Business.

That’s philanthropy completing a full cycle.

Currently at 65 percent to a goal of 800 participants, the University Family Drive runs through April 8. Those who gave last year helped to inspire a new generation of support. For more information on how you can make an impact on IUP students, including how to download a pledge form or make an electronic commitment via payroll deduction, visit the University Family Drive. You may also make on gift on your credit card.  Gifts are tax deductible, per IRS regulations. Please contact the Office of Annual Giving at 724-357-5555 or with any questions. Most of all, thank you!
