On February 25, 2016, the English Department held its annual Publication Celebration in the new Humanities and Social Sciences building to mark a number of faculty successes in publishing books, articles, and monographs. The period covered for this event was August 2014 to August 2015.
Moderated by Resa Crane Bizzaro, the celebration stems from the desire to publicly acknowledge faculty publications for two reasons: first, publications of written work are remarkable professional achievements worthy of celebration, and, second, such publication is the result of extremely complex and exacting creative processes that reflect the best aspects of academic life and bonds faculty together as a community of writers.
Many faculty published texts during the time period, and several people discussed their work during the event, including Linda Norris, Jo-Anne Kerr, David Downing, Samah Elbelazi, Tom Slater, and Patrick Bizzaro. Participants included faculty and graduate students, as well as recently retired faculty. Speakers gave practical advice on editing journals, publishing articles and books, developing professional connections, and maintaining a writing agenda.
The event demonstrated the passion and creativity of faculty making knowledge in their respective fields and was well attended by graduate students, faculty, and administrators.
