English graduate student Lara Hauer has been selected by two Punxsutawney endowed scholars as their mentor.

Undergraduates Taylor Jones and Tyra Wray both chose to honor Hauer, who is the assistant to the director of the Writing Center at Punxsutawney, as the person who has been most instrumental in their success as first-year college students.

In addition to assisting students with their writing for their courses, Hauer, who is in the English Department’s Composition and TESOL program, helps students to write articles for the local newspaper, the Punxsutawney Spirit.

Jones, with Hauer’s help, recently had an article published in the March 8 edition of the Spirit, with the headline "IUP-Punxsy Students Learn about Colorism."

The Punxsutawney Endowed Scholars and their mentors will be honored at a dinner at the Punxsutawney Country Club on April 7, 2016.
