Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND) kicked off
National Nutrition Month with a fundraising event to benefit the Indiana County Community Action Program (ICCAP).
The students had a scavenger hunt on February 29 at an area grocery store, raising more than $270 to benefit the local organization.
The scavenger hunt was designed to begin events to celebrate National Nutrition Month in March.
Department of Food and Nutrition and SAND will host two nationally known speakers as part of the celebration.
At 6:00 p.m. on March 29, IUP will host
Leslie Bonci , the owner of Active Eating Advice – be fit, fed, fearless -- a nutrition consulting company. Her presentation will take place in Gorell Recital Hall,
second floor of IUP’s Sutton Hall. Bonci has worked with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins, as well as the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).
At 6:00 p.m. on March 30, Jill Jayne , creator of the nationally acclaimed Rock & Roll Nutrition Show, will talk about her nationally acclaimed
Jump with Jill in the Hadley Union Building Ohio Room.
Both programs are free and open to the community.
The SAND students also will host a special “green” smoothie sampling and sale on March 17 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Hadley Union Building lobby.
