Political Science Students Compete at Spring 2016 Model EU Competition

International Studies majors Megan Culbertson (left) and Nicole Fidler at the spring 2016 Model EU competition.Two IUP Political Science students joined with students from universities across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois at the spring 2016 competition of the Model European Union on February 26 and 27, held at the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg.

Megan Culbertson (junior, International Studies major) represented Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, and Nicole Fidler (junior, International Studies major) represented Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel.  Political Science faculty Dr. Steven Jackson, who serves as faculty advisor to the IUP Model EU club, also attended the competition.

International Studies major Megan Culbertson represented Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius at the spring 2016 Model EU competition.The topic at this year's Model EU competition was the Migrant Crisis and ISIS/Daesh.  Culbertson and Fiddler competed along with students from Bloomsburg, Pitt-Johnstown, Pitt-Bradford, Pitt-Greensburg, Susquehanna University, and Duquesne University

International Studies major Nicole Fidler represented Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel at the spring 2016 Model EU competition.The undergraduate Model European Union is an annual event that gives students a chance to learn about the workings of the European Union through preparation for and participation in a hands-on two day simulation. Model EU enhances students’ understanding of the issues and challenges facing the 28 member nations of the EU. Awards are given to the most effective delegations and best individual position papers.
