You’ll enjoy the show as student and faculty teams from the Academy of Culinary Arts compete to transform a “mystery basket” of ingredients into a winning menu of appetizer, entrée, and dessert.

Chef Anthony Battaglia will serve as Master of Ceremonies, while fellow chef instructors Thomas Barnes, Jaclyn Price, Martha Jo Rupert, and Jeffrey Santicola will lead teams of four culinary students in the quest to create a dinner for six people within two hours.

Each team will be responsible for menu planning, prepping food, and cooking as well as completing a series of surprise challenges during the competition.

Judges will evaluate plate presentation, sanitation, time management, use of ingredients, creativity, and taste. This year’s judging panel includes:

  • Clifford Klinger, retired IUP Academy of Culinary Arts chef instructor

  • Kelly (Roehm) Price (CA’05, BS Nutrition ’08), food service director at Leechburg Area School District

  • Timothy (TJ) Turner (CA ’08), sous chef at 10/09 Kitchen in Bedford, Pa.

  • Joshua Zimmerman (CA ’14), IUP Hospitality Management student.

Aramark and the IUP Culinary Arts Escoffier Club are the sponsors for this event, which will kick off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, in the IUP Punxsutawney Learning Center cafeteria.

Cost of admission is donation of a nonperishable food item to the campus food drive for the local food bank.
