The Student Cooperative Association announced a restructuring of its organization with the immediate appointment of Michael Carnovale to the position of associate executive director. In this role, Carnovale will oversee all the aspects of the association’s daily operations along with being the association’s liaison to university departments.
An IUP graduate, Carnovale began his affiliation with the Student Co-op in April 2002, when he was hired as the assistant director of campus recreation. He served in that role for five years before moving across campus for a year to serve as the director of intramurals and facilities for IUP athletics. Carnovale returned to the Student Co-op in 2008 in the capacity of director of campus recreation, a position he held until December 2014. Most recently, he was promoted to director of operations in January 2015.
“I am excited to have Mike in this role,” said Louis Garzarelli Jr., the Student Co-op’s executive director and CEO. “Mike has been a key player in what we do as an association over the years. His knowledge and shared vision for the association will continue to help us moving forward.”
“I am both humbled and excited to take on this new opportunity at the Student Cooperative Association,” Carnovale said.
A native of Johnsonburg, Pa., Carnovale obtained his undergraduate and master’s degrees from IUP. He earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 1999 and a master’s in sports administration with a concentration in industrial labor relations in 2006. Carnovale and his wife, Becky, reside in Indiana with their two children, Anna and Michael Jr.
