November 9 was a busy day for Michael Moyer (Chemistry, '04), the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics 2015 Young Alumni Award Recipient.
Moyer met with chemistry students and
spoke to them about the importance of networking, toured the chemistry
department’s laboratory facilities, and gave a keynote talk that was open to
all university students and faculty.
“With all sincerity,” Moyer said,
“IUP truly did prepare me for my career.”
Moyer is the Chief Operating Officer and partner at Environmental Services Laboratories and Environmental Land Surveying and Solutions.
He said the chemistry department was one part of his good experience with IUP. Moyer
credits IUP Ambassadors with teaching him valuable lessons about friendship,
leadership, and professionalism.
In Moyer’s opinion, the Young
Alumni Award wasn’t the only thing IUP had given him in his post-graduation
“It’s an even greater honor,” he said, “to remain engaged with IUP,
especially now with the current leadership of President Driscoll and talented
deans like Dean Snavely. There is magic happening here every day because of
their dedication and their passion to make IUP an incubator of success.”
Moyer ended his talk with a
challenge to the audience: to engage with IUP, to volunteer their time, to show
their IUP pride.
“Any kind of support you can provide,” he said, “will be part
of the magic that has yet to happen.”
