Michael T. Williamson (English Department) presented a paper, “‘Treason, Stiff with Doom:’ Aesthetic Inheritance, Cultural Betrayal, and the Right to Self Determination in Felicia Hemans’s and Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s War Poetry,” at the 23rd North American Society for the Study of Romanticism conference on Romanticism and Rights.

This paper is part of an article on 19th-century women poets and war poetry set in Italy and the Balkans. This paper considers reactions to the peace movement in mid-19th-century Britain.
