Written by Qui Nguyen, it is directed by College of Fine Arts Dean Michael Hood, with fight choreography by Michael Chin, a fight master with the Society of American Fight Directors. Chin most recently choreographed the fights for the world premiere at the Flea Theatre in New York City.

She Kills Monsters is an action-filled comedy packed with swordfights and monsters, set in a Dungeons-and-Dragons world where even the geekiest among us can be a hero. The adventurers in She Kills Monsters, including several strong female characters, experience the fight against pure unalloyed evil, the hope that springs eternal, regret and longing, love and loss, honor and loyalty, and the knowledge that the whole world can shift with the toss of the dice.

Acclaimed playwright Nguyen stocks this play with all the classic monsters found in the popular game Dungeons and Dragons and the quirky characters who live to vanquish them.

Along the way, according to director Hood, the author “takes us on our own adventure as the audience and characters learn the importance of communicating, caring, and acknowledging those that matter to us, while honoring the ways we can make a difference. We may not all be wielding battleaxes, but we all must defeat our own demons as we learn to stand on our own.”

Joan Vandyke has provided dance and cheer choreography and David Martynuik has composed original music.

This play contains violence, language, and situations to which some audience members may object and that may not be appropriate for young children.
