Siegel Finer Presents on BRCA Gene at Pittsburgh’s Department of Innovation and Performance Speaker Series

Bryna Siegel Finer, English Department assistant professor and director of Writing Across the Curriculum, presented on the BRCA gene as a representative of the organization FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered) to employees of the City of Pittsburgh as part of the Department of Innovation and Performances’ monthly speaker series.

Siegel Finer was invited to speak as part of the series to educate city employees about breast cancer, the benefits of genetic testing, and resources available for people with genetic mutations. As part of her scholarly work, Siegel Finer researches how women with genetic mutations use writing to create activist communities. 

Her article, “The Rhetoric of Previving: Blogging the Breast Cancer Gene,” will be available in the April issue of the journal Rhetoric Review.
