A draft copy of IUP’s Self
Study for reaffirmation of accreditation with the Middle States Commission
on Higher Education is now available for public viewing and comment. As mentioned
in President Driscoll’s video last week,
feedback from the IUP community is an essential next step in the development of
IUP’s draft Self Study
can be downloaded as a PDF from the IUP Middle States
website. Once you have reviewed the document, feedback may be submitted through
an online comment form on the same website or in person via one of three
scheduled public forums. The public forums will be held on the following dates
and will provide an opportunity for the campus community to interact and give
feedback to members of the Middle States steering committee:
Feedback obtained via the online comment form and through
the public forums will be used by the steering committee to craft the final
version of the IUP Self Study.
Additionally, IUP’s Middle State Site Visiting Team chair will provide feedback
on the document during her visit on November 2–3. The final IUP Self Study will be available in
February 2016 prior to the April 10–13, 2016, Middle States Site Team visit.
From the start, the development of the IUP Self Study has been an inclusive process coordinated by a 34-member steering
committee appointed in fall 2013. The steering committee oversaw the work
of seven subcommittees
consisting of over 160 members from all areas of the IUP community. These
subcommittees conducted research to develop seven chapters based on the 14 Middle States Characteristics of Excellence
in Higher Education. The information contained within the chapters was then
incorporated by Ben Rafoth, the faculty writer, into the draft IUP Self
