Following a series of resume workshops held in the Eberly Auditorium on September 1–3, students participated in part 2 of Resumania on September 8–10, 2015.

Faculty, staff, and business partners joined the Resumania program by conducting 30-minute, one-on-one resume review sessions with more than 100 students. Students incorporated what they learned in the earlier workshops and brought in their resumes to obtain personal and professional feedback and suggestions as they prepared for the upcoming recruitment season.

Included among the external reviewers were: Jim Struzzi, president of the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce; Amanda Mosco, director of Human Resources at Arin Intermediate Unit 28; Lori Gigliotti, SPHR and AVP/Development program manager at First Commonwealth Bank; and Kate Wenturine, human resources representative at First Commonwealth Bank.

This is the second year for Struzzi to participate in Resumania.

“From the Chamber's standpoint, Resumania is valuable to us because we can directly help these students enter the workplace through guidance and advice,” Struzzi said. “Students are able to gain a real-life perspective on their resume, and we further our mission to improve the overall economic climate by creating gainfully employed people who contribute positively to our society.”

Alexandra Larch, a senior finance and economics major, appreciated the opportunity to have personal assistance with her resume.

“The one-on-one Resumania session was really helpful,” she said. “It’s great to hear advice and tips from professionals in the area because these are people we will be looking to hire in the future.”

In addition to the 19 faculty members and several staff members and graduate assistants from the Career and Professional Development Center, several HR professionals from across campus assisted with resume reviews, including: Val Mercado (IUP Office of Social Equity); Brittany Weaver (Office of Human Resources); and Lisa Andrus (Hospitality Management Department).

Cyndy Strittmatter, the assistant dean for Administration, said, “this is a real team effort. We had 30 individuals volunteer to help with one-on-one resume reviews. We want our students to know that we are here to help them with their internship and job search, and Resumania is one of many ways that we demonstrate this commitment.”
