At IUP Punxsutawney, the staff has paved the way for students to strive for excellence. Research has indicated that the more involvement in activities, the higher the grade point average and also more academic success.
Therefore, multiple activities are being offered for students at the Punxsutawney campus students to get involved, one being Creating Higher Standards, or CHS. This was presented as an interest group that allows students to meet weekly and work on their first-year transition skills, such as getting acclimated with the college world.
The idea for this interest group came from a former student by the name of Jamaal Gosa, the president of the organization. Gosa, along with two colleagues, came up with CHS because they saw a need for freshman to receive more guidance.
“CHS was a vision I had because I realized a pattern of students doing the bare minimum to get by, and I wanted to change that,” said Gosa.
