Cuong Diep recently published an article, which was featured on the cover of the journal Genesis, on how the adult zebrafish kidney is developed.

The article, titled “Development of the Zebrafish Mesonephros,” describes how new kidney tissue is formed from specific stem cells to generate the adult kidney as juvenile zebrafish develop into adult fish.

Unlike humans, zebrafish have the capability to regenerate new kidney tissue throughout adult life, making them an ideal model system for studying stem cell biology and regeneration. By understanding how zebrafish form new kidney tissue, insights can be gained into activating stem cells or identifying drugs that can promote kidney regeneration in humans.

Genesis is published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
