Ellen Yerger, Department of Biology, and Ed Donley, Department of Mathematics, received the Peggy Clark–Grassroots Environmental Leadership Award on May 18, 2015, at the annual dinner of the League of Women Voters of Indiana County. The environmental leadership award recognizes individuals for their
exemplary leadership and active participation in policy issues that involve protecting or preserving the environment.
Donley transformed acres of his property to native meadow by eliminating invasive species and restoring native plants. He hosted numerous community education programs.
Yerger attended one of Donley’s community education programs. She initiated a research program focusing on the relationship of native plants and insect populations.
Donley and Yerger will continue to protect and preserve the environment through their community education programs and research on native species.
