The Indiana University of Pennsylvania student chapter of Meeting Professionals International will host a “Special Event Institute” on April 25, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Ackerman Hall for any students interested in special events.

During the event, students will have the chance to participate in a panel discussion with various industry professionals, and will be able to network and to learn about event strategy and planning, performance management, personal training and development, and responsibility and implications.

Meeting Professionals International is an organization focused on professionalism and knowledge of the special events and meeting planning industry. It also focuses on the importance of structure and its vital role in achieving success in the field of meetings and events.

“We are encouraging all student leaders to attend this event, as they are sure to gain knowledge that will aid in the planning and coordinating of campus events,” Terraine Johnson, treasurer for IUP’s chapter of Meeting Professionals International, said. IUP’s chapter includes 25 students. Attendance is open to students from any major, Johnson said.

Presenters for this event include:

  • Tawnya Curatola, vice chief information officer and director of event services of the Regional Learning Alliance at Cranberry Wood. She previously served as manager of event services and event coordinator for the company;
  • Bob Smith, events manager at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex; and
  • Nancy Mundy, event planner for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and part-time wedding planner.

To register for the event, persons should contact Jamie at lxns@iup.edu. More information about Meeting Professionals International is available at the MPI website. Preregistration is requested, but not required; persons may register the day of the event in the lobby of Ackerman Hall starting at 9:30 a.m.
