Professor of English Lynn Shelly and graduate assistant Kathleen Hynes presented on “Sharing Spaces in Extended Writer-Tutor Relationships” at the Mid-Atlantic Writing Center Association conference at James Madison University on April 11, 2015. Shelly and Hynes spoke about their research on writer-tutor interactions in the writing center at the Punxsutawney campus, focusing on the variable of the length of relationship between the writer and the tutor.

After presenting their initial findings, Shelly and Hynes led a discussion in which participants spoke of differences they have observed when writers and tutors interact over a series of writing center visits rather than a single visit. Participants also discussed implications for writing center administration and whether long-term relationships in the writing center should be encouraged.
