In conjunction with Earth Week, the Interior Design program, in conjunction with  the American Society of Interior Designers and the International Interior Design Association, encourages you to recycle and reuse while participating in a fun, philanthropic event on April 21, 2015, in the green space outside of Ackerman Hall.

The Challenge:

Create a shelter out of reused and recycled materials only!

Shelter must be able to accommodate two average-sized adults standing, cover their heads, and provide complete shelter on at least three sides. You will be provided an 8’ x 8’ area in which to work (group representative present at all times).

Timeline:

  • 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.: Build shelter and voting ($1 per voting ticket, available for purchase at site)
  • 4:00 p.m.: Judging (done by interior design professors and guest administrators)
  • 5:00 p.m.: Bust your creation! (tear down your structure)

Cost:

Only $15 entry fee — applications must be submitted by Friday, April  17

Prizes and Benefits:

Go to your organization’s chosen charity!

Grand Prize: $200

(awarded to the shelter with the most ticket votes, so invite all you can to attend!)

Most Structurally Sound: $50

Most Creative: $50

All other proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity and Austin’s Playroom
