Congratulations to Sara Bintner, who has a summer internship in the Doylestown Hospital pre-med program!

Sara Binter Biology StudentDoylestown Hospital is a leading medical facility in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pa. Every summer, they have a competitive program designed for college students interested in medicine who are pursuing academic programs leading to medical school. Students should have completed their junior year of college before the program begins and have a GPA of at least 3.5.

The application process begins by making an initial inquiry about the program beginning in early November. Nearly 100 students per year take interest and decide to apply. Once inquiries have been gathered by the volunteer services coordinator, 20 applications are sent out to students who made a good first impression. Students have to complete the application, write a personal statement, and obtain three separate government checks, including child abuse clearance and FBI finger printing before submitting anything to the hospital.

After the application deadline passes, the volunteer department chooses the 10 best applications and grants those students interviews that occur during spring break. Eight to 10 positions are available for the program, and decisions on who made the roster for the year’s program are made by the end of March.
